A fire has completely destroyed the historic Scout and Cub halls of the 1st Camps Bay Scout Group, one of South Africa’s oldest Scouting organisations.Established in 1916, the Group lost more than just buildings – a century’s worth of irreplaceable memorabilia, camping and training equipment, and its honours board listing Springbok Scouts dating back decades were all consumed in the blaze.“Everything has been lost,” said Scout Group Leader Isabell Anders, describing the scene as “devastating.”The fire did not spread to nearby vegetation, thanks to swift action by the City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service.<br />Support<br />Police have opened a case, with burglary and arson under investigation.Authorities have asked the public to avoid the site until all inspections are completed.Despite the tragedy, the community response has been heartening. Scout Groups across the country and local residents have expressed support, with SCOUTS South Africa CEO Wayne du Plessis offering condolences and backing.“This Scout Group has given so much to young people in their community,” said Du Plessis.“We extend our full support during this difficult time.”<br />The Group is currently appealing for monetary donations to aid rebuilding efforts.“Once we’ve regrouped, we’ll share a list of needs. At this stage, monetary donations are the most helpful,” Anders said.<br />The Camps Bay Scout Group, known for its community-driven programmes and volunteer spirit, now looks to rebuild its legacy – brick by brick, memory by memory.<br />
