Scottish Fire and Rescue Service urges locals to keep windows and doors closed as fire crews tackle flames at Riverside Recycling Centre.<br />Dundee residents have been urged to keep doors and windows shut this morning as thick smoke billows from a major fire at Riverside Recycling Centre in the west of the city.<br />The blaze broke out in the early hours at the facility on Wright Avenue, with three fire crews currently battling the flames. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) confirmed there are no reported injuries.<br />A spokesperson said: "We have three fire appliances in attendance at a recycling centre fire on Wright Avenue, Dundee.<br />Due to smoke in the area, residents in Dundee, Newport and Tayport are advised to keep windows and doors closed. Firefighters are working to extinguish the fire. There are no reported casualties."<br />The recycling plant, which is operated by Dundee City Council, is adjacent to Dundee Airport. Airport officials confirmed that flights are currently unaffected, with departures and arrivals from destinations including London Heathrow and Kirkwall expected to run on time.<br />Riverside Recycling Centre is one of two in Dundee, offering residents a place to recycle a wide range of household waste free of charge. Staff at the site, who are trained operatives, were on hand when the fire broke out, but the centre was closed to the public at the time.<br />The SFRS tweeted about the incident shortly after 4.25am, emphasising that the main priority is keeping local residents safe. The thick smoke is particularly affecting areas around Ninewells and Invergowrie, in Perth and Kinross, and people living nearby are advised to remain indoors.<br /><br />Writing on X, Dundee City Council said: "Riverside Household Waste Recycling Centre will not open today (Fri Sep 5) because of an early morning incident.<br />"Apologies for any inconvenience."
