A huge fire has erupted in Leicester, closing Ulverscroft Road with at least eight fire engines on the scene.A huge fire has erupted at a recycling plant in Leicester. At least eight fire engines are battling the blaze, and more than 40 firefighters are in attendance, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said.Leicester Police warned: "Ulverscroft Road, Leicester remains closed between the junctions of Catherine Street and Forest Road due to a fire. Please find alternative routes and updates will follow. Many thanks." A second post added: "Due to the fire on Ulverscroft Road, please keep windows closed for your safety. Police and Fire are dealing and will provide an update as soon as possible. Thank you." Earlier, police had urged residents not to drink tap water due to the fire, however, this was found to be a mistake. A Severn Trent spokesperson said: “We would like to reassure all our customers in the Leicester area that our network is working as it should be and we haven’t issued a do not drink notice in connection with the ongoing fire at a recycling centre in Ulverscroft Road, Leicester. We do have a team on site assisting Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service with water pressure and flows for the fire, but this is standard procedure in incidents of this scale.”
