This is the detail for a severe weather event that has occurred. The original alert for this event is listed below. Details of the original alert: - WHAT: Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. - WHERE: A portion of southwest Virginia, including the following counties, Grayson and Smyth. - WHEN: Until 730 PM EDT. - IMPACTS: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways. Overflowing poor drainage areas. - ADDITIONAL DETAILS. - At 424 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 1 and 1.5 inches of rain have fallen. - This includes the following streams and drainages. Blue Spring Creek, Comers Creek, Beaver Creek, Hungry Mother Creek, Dickey Creek, Crewey Branch, Campbell Creek, Hurricane Creek, Deans Branch, Georges Branch, East Fork Hopkins Branch, Laurel Creek and Houndshell Branch. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include. Marion: Saltville. Chilhowie: Mount Rogers National Recreation Area. Sugar Grove: Adwolf. Thomas Bridge. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
